NATURE OF WORK
The Economic Development Coordinator is a highly accountable position, responsible to perform coordination on assigned Economic Development projects. Duties will include the development, implementation and evaluation of various City projects.
Responsibilities also include supporting tourism development and promotion, preparing and managing grant applications to secure funding for economic initiatives, and implementing strategies for resident attraction and retention.
As directed, the Economic Development Coordinator will act as a liaison and support between City departments, consulting engineers and professional and technical groups on designated projects.

Reports to Manager of Economic Development and receives direction from Director of Development Services
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May provide supervision and direction to other staff and/or volunteers as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with the implementation of the 5 Year Economic Development Strategy. May lead aspects of the implementation as required.
- Liaises with a variety of contacts and monitors emerging trends and needs, prepares reports and recommendations and drafts policy proposals; presents to committees and interest groups as requested and/or required.
- Plans, implements and evaluates various community projects; coordinating projects through to completion.
- Participates in business outreach and support during capital project planning and implementation.
- Researches, develops, implements and evaluates departmental strategies for economic development.
- Identifies and assess services and projects needed related to the community; identifies, develops, implements, executes and evaluates project plans that align with the City’s vision.
- Represents the City on various community committees and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with diverse interest groups. Acts as direct liaison with organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures, BC Economic Development Association.
- Prepares reports and develops strategies to ensure community needs are met and to optimize service levels and promotes and guides others in understanding the delivery of effective services and the achievement of objectives and their interrelationship.
- Prepares a variety of professional quality documents and reports related to the work performed.
- Contributes to a positive work environment by modelling a respectful workplace, as per City policy.
- Takes reasonable care to protect the health and safety of themselves and the health and safety of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work. Properly wears protective clothing, devises and equipment provided, and ensures hazards are immediately reported to supervisors. Complies with the City of Fort St John’s Occupational Health and Safety program and all applicable polices and procedures.

REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & REGISTRATIONS
- College or University diploma or degree in urban planning, project management, business, commerce, economic development or a closely related field.
- Five years' experience in a related role, preferably in a municipal setting.
- Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of project administration; contract administration; methods and techniques of research and statistical analysis; and report preparation.
- Skills in facilitation, strategic planning, research and implementation, business networking and identifying partnerships and collaborative opportunities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite programs as demonstrated through testing (70% pass rate required)
- Ability to successfully pass and maintain a Police Information Check
- Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License
- Sound project management skills and experience in effectively and efficiently managing multiples projects/events/programs
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to collaborate, exercise sound judgement and manage politically sensitive issues.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex and multiple tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment
- Ability to organize work and prioritize to meet formal deadlines with continuous interruptions, strong analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, organization and time management skills
